Daniel McKinnon has been practicing law for over 13 years and founded his own firm a decade ago. What began with just a laptop, an iPhone, and a clear vision has grown into a thriving practice with a team of 20 and deep roots in the local community.
Daniel works across a wide range of legal areas, including property and conveyancing, commercial and business law, wills and estates, and general litigation. His clients often say they value his direct, clear communication style and his calm, capable guidance through both life’s major milestones and its more difficult challenges.
For Daniel, the heart of legal practice lies in helping people navigate moments of transition — whether joyful, stressful, or somewhere in between. “It’s a privilege to share those moments with clients,” he says. “Even something exciting, like buying a house, comes with stress. We get to step in and say, ‘Let me take care of it.’ That’s incredibly rewarding.”
Memorable Moments
One of Daniel’s standout career moments was handling his first Supreme Court case after founding the firm. “It was a watershed moment for me,” he recalls. “I was up against much more experienced practitioners, and the responsibility stopped with me. We secured an excellent result for our client, and it taught me a lot about resilience and belief in your own ability.”
He finds just as much meaning in the quiet victories — helping a client resolve a complex dispute, finalise a significant commercial deal, or simply move forward with confidence. “That feeling of relief and resolution at the end of a matter is something I never get tired of.”
A Local Focus
Daniel is passionate about supporting the community he lives and works in. “I love working local,” he says. “Whether it’s helping residents with personal matters or supporting businesses large and small, our firm is just one piece of the puzzle — but I’m proud to play a role in our region’s growth and wellbeing.”
Outside the Office
When he’s not practicing law, you’ll likely find Daniel in the garden, watching or coaching rugby league, or cycling around the Nepean River with his wife and kids. He’s a huge live music fan and has seen everyone from Queen and Elton John to Adele and Cold Chisel live in concert.
Daniel also gives back through community roles, including his position as Chairman of the New South Wales Rugby League Judiciary and Code of Conduct Panel and as Secretary of Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy Australia.
